You don’t need to be a doctor to work on medical research. Although a thorough and deep study is necessary. Medical research is also known as biomedical research in scientific or medical terminology. It is a basic research carried out to add knowledge in the field of medicine. Medical research can be broadly classified into two categories: clinical trials which carried out for safety and efficacy of the products, and the second termed as preclinical research which tends to expand knowledge for new therapies.

Success of medical research has been significant with the development for polio vaccines, treatment for diabetes, medication of blood pressure. Medical research has also aided in microsurgery techniques. successful treatments of cancer improved solutions to fight aids and many more challenges. Clinical trials are done on animals. Patients are also observed in medical research. The numbers vary from few hundreds to thousands.

Many medical researches are funded by medical councils, tax payers and other government bodies. Medical researches are very much regulated. A national regulatory authority has been setup to monitor medical research, for instance the development of a new drug. Medical researches are conducted in the field of public health, cancer, aging, diabetes, neuroscience, molecular biology, genetics, virology to name a few.

 Biomedical research target mostly on basic science, research techniques and day-to- day medicines prescribed by the physician. Aspects of living organisms, for example reproduction, prevention of diseases are also studied in this research. People involved with medical research may study, experiment and interpret results, may educate the masses. They may also collaborate with other institute for common research objective.
